Prof. Sanjeev Shukla
Principal Investigator
Epigenetics and RNA Processing Lab (ERPL)
I completed my Ph.D. in Biochemistry under the guidance of Dr. Surekha M. Zingde at the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education (ACTREC), Navi Mumbai.
I joined the laboratory of Dr. Lopa Mishra at Georgetown University Medical Centre, Washington DC, to study TGF-beta signaling in hepatocellular carcinoma.
I joined the laboratory of Dr. Shalini Oberdoerffer at the National Institutes of Health (NIH)/ National Cancer Institute (NCI), Maryland, in 2010, where we identified a novel mechanism of regulation of alternative pre-mRNA splicing (Nature 2011).
I joined IISER Bhopal in May 2013, where I study the interplay between epigenetic modifications and alternative pre-mRNA splicing in the context of Cancer Biology.
My mission is to advance the scientific knowledge and understanding of cancer biology and to inspire and train the next generation of scientists and innovators.

Dr. Parik Kakani
Post-Doctoral Fellow
As a researcher trained in the fundamentals of Biological Sciences, my research interfaces the disciplines of Molecular biology, Cell biology, Genetic engineering, and epigenetics.
I have completed my Ph.D. from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, India where I have led the molecular-level approach to finding potential malaria transmission-blocking vaccine candidates.
I did M.Sc. Genetic Engineering from School of Biotechnology, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.
Currently, I aim to investigate the CTCF/BORIS associated epigenetic complex that regulates the metastasis genes. In addition, I am also decoding the regulatory mechanisms that derive divergent expression of the two duplicated genes, CTCF, and BORIS. In the future, this will open up new frontiers in designing anti-cancer drug/therapeutics targeting CTCF/BORIS associated epigenetic complexes.
